So last week Gabe of Penny Arcade made several deliberately hurtful public statements about trans* people, essentially claiming trans* didn’t exist because he said it didn’t exist.
A few companies immediately disassociated themselves from PAX (the Penny Arcade Expo) and the rest of us who had already bought tickets were left wondering “should we go?”
Arguably, a community of fans and gamers is much larger than a single string of bigoted comments made by one of the community’s founders.
At the same time, going to PAX without acknowledging that many (most?) PAX attendees are LGBT supporters and allies seems like a missed opportunity.
So what do you think? I’m thinking we wear stickers, buttons, etc. to show our solidarity and refusal to accept hatred.
This is one of numerous possible designs already available for purchase, or we could design our own.
